A sophisticated twist on the classic Old Fashioned, this cocktail combines the warmth of bourbon, the spice of ginger, and the sweetness of orange blossom honey. Perfect for special occasions or a luxurious nightcap!

Ingredients

For Honeycomb Ice Spheres:

  • Distilled water (as needed)
  • Honeycomb (as needed)
  • Ice sphere molds

For Honey Ginger Old Fashioned:

  • 4 spritzes Domaine de Canton Ginger Liqueur
  • 1 oz Rittenhouse Rye Bottled in Bond
  • 1 oz Old Forester 86 or other bourbon
  • ¼ oz Rich Orange Blossom Honey Syrup (recipe below)
  • 4 dashes black walnut bitters (e.g., Fee Bros)
  • Crushed ice (as needed)
  • 1 Honeycomb Ice Sphere
  • Orange peel (as needed)
  • Candied ginger (as needed)

Directions

For Rich Orange Blossom Honey Syrup:

  • Mix 2 parts orange blossom honey with 1 part hot water. Stir until the honey dissolves completely.
  • Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

For Honeycomb Ice Spheres:

  1. Cut pieces of honeycomb to fit each ice sphere mold. Rinse and freeze for 4 hours.
  2. Fill a cocktail shaker with distilled water. Place frozen honeycomb in the molds and fill with distilled water. Seal the molds tightly.
  3. Submerge the sealed mold (hole-side down) into a shaker of distilled water. Place this setup in a cooler filled with water, leaving 2 inches at the top of the shaker exposed.
  4. Freeze the cooler setup for 24 hours.
  5. Remove and gently tap the mold to release the ice sphere.

For the Honey-Ginger Old Fashioned:

  1. Fill an atomizer spray bottle with ginger liqueur. Spray 4 spritzes into a rocks glass, rotating the glass with each spray.
  2. In a mixing glass, combine rye, bourbon, honey syrup, and bitters. Stir with ice until well-chilled.
  3. Strain into the prepared rocks glass over a Honeycomb Ice Sphere.
  4. Garnish with orange peel and candied ginger.

Chef’s Tip:
For optimal results with the Honeycomb Ice Sphere, use a Tevolo ice sphere mold, an Igloo flip-top hard-shell cooler, a 28-oz shaker tin, and distilled water.
